Tennis ladders

The RCTA runs three very successful singles ladders: an Open Ladder, on which both men and women may participate; a Women's Ladder; and a ladder for men ages 45 and over. All players must be RCTA members and must pay an annual fee of $30.00 for each ladder they wish to join. A ladder board at the courts keeps track of current standings supplemented by the online ladders. Last year more than 200 players (both men and women) competed on the various ladders. All are designed to encourage play.

HOW IT WORKS:

The ladder is a ranking system and players try to move up the ladder by challenging higher-ranked players to a match. If the challenger wins the match, he or she moves up to that spot and everyone in between slides back one spot. If the challenger loses the match, everyone stays where they were. Players may challenge anyone up to 20 places higher (exception: those ranked 95 or lower may challenge anyone ranked 76 or lower). New players may make their first challenge as high as they like. Win and they move to that position; lose and they must start at the bottom and work their way up. See detailed ladder rules here.

A challenge match consists of a single set, with a 12-point tiebreaker at 6-6.  Standings from one year carry over to the next, provided the player rejoins. Any new players are added to the bottom of the list. At the end of the season there is a ladder playoff among the top 16 players who have played a minimum of 10 matches. (top 8 players for 45s and women's ladders)

When joining the ladder, each registered player provides his or her name, email address and contact numbers and indicates when he or she is available to play: Weekends, Weekday Days or Weekday evenings. Challenges can be issued directly to players by email, using the on-line ladder system. Ladder players' information on-line is protected by a ladder password.

To play on any of the ladders, you must first sign up and join the RCTA. You can join and register for a ladder at the same time. To do that, go to Join the RCTA. If you are already a member, just log in and follow the prompts.

Once you've joined and received the ladder password, you can choose the ladder you wish to view. NOTE: the password to access the ladders is not the same as your individual RCTA password.
