how to play here.

The 96th Street Red Clay Tennis Courts (Oscar Hijuelos Clay Courts) in Riverside Park are public courts, part of the New York City Parks & Recreation's system. Anyone can play here. Each player need to do one of the following:

- Present a valid, current New York City Parks Season Tennis permit, OR

- Purchase a $15 day pass at the courts, OR

- Present a current New York City Parks "Single Play" ticket

Season permits are $100 for adults, $20 for seniors, $10 for juniors. Single Play tickets are $15 each. Permits and Single Play tickets are usable at all NYC Parks tennis facilities, including the Riverside 96th Red Clay Courts. Players without a season permit or Single Play ticket may purchase a day pass for $15 which is valid ONLY for the 96th Red Clay Courts. Check the NYC Parks & Recreation website for Information about where and how Permits and Single Play tickets can be obtained.

Most courts are distributed on a first-come/first-serve basis and you just wait your turn. When you arrive you will be assigned to the next available court. Two of the ten courts are often available for advance reservations on-line for a $15 fee via the NYC Parks website.

On weekends, both players must be present in order to sign up for the next available courts. On weekdays, one person is required.

Wait times vary according to time of day, day of week and time of year. At peak times, the wait is generally no longer than 90 minutes. At non-peak times, the next available hour is simply the next hour.

Rackets and used balls are available to borrow at no cost.
